LASG welcomes collaboration with NAN

NAN

The Lagos State Government says it will collaborate with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to disseminate prompt information to at least 65 percent residents on government programmes.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, made the declaration when he visited News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) office in Lagos.

“So I congratulate NAN for having thoroughbred professional like Mr. Bayo Onanuga as the MD (Managing Director) in Abuja.

“We think that our relationship with media can improve greatly.

“There is nowhere better to start this sort of engagement that we thought is necessary than to come to the News Agency of Nigeria, which of course we believe is the number one in terms of spread and coverage and content generation in the country.

“There are areas where we believe we need to work more together.

“This is the digital age; we believe at any point in time about 65 per cent of people that any form of information or news we want to reach is through social media and the internet generally,” Ayoride said.

He said that the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, had agreed to upgrade the ICT and Website unit of the ministry to a full-fledged directorate.

Ayorinde said that the directorate was strengthened to assist the state to spread it activities and policies to residents of Lagos state in record time.

In her response, the Head of NAN Lagos Office, Mrs. Kate Popoola, commended the effort of the ministry in the area of prompt dissemination of information to residents of Lagos and its environs.

Popoola urged the state to strengthen its relationship with NAN as the content provider, adding that NAN now provides multimedia contents to its diverse clientele.

“NAN is here as a content provider for the media.

“Over the years we started off by being mainly for the print because we were bringing out text news.

“Yes, we were set up for gathering, processing and dissemination of news.

“So we started with the print majorly and we are very useful to the newspaper houses and all.

“We got round to electronics media, particularly the audio; there is now, voice attached to our news material and we are still evolving, despite the fact of the hardship going on now,” Popoola said.

She assured that NAN would be able to satisfy the need of its clients on the introduction of multi-media news packaging.

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
