A Mararaba Upper Area Court on Wednesday revoked the bail of a 27-year-old estate agent, Emerson Chris, for jumping bail.

Chris, of Aso C, Mararaba, was first arraigned on June 22, for alleged criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating, which he pleaded not guilty.

The Upper Area Court judge, Ibrahim Shelaru, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the defendant and adjourned the case till Sept. 7 for further hearing.

Prosecutor Herman Donald had told the court that the accused was absent in court knowing that he was supposed to be in court.

Donald urged the court to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the defendant and summon on the surety for the refusal to produce the accused as promised.

He told the court that Idris Garba of Ruga Auta, Mararaba, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarter on June 21.

The prosecutor said that sometimes in Sept 2012, the accused and Patrick Julius, now at large, sold a piece of land 25×50 to the complainant located at Aso C, Mararaba, at the rate of N250,000.

He added that months later the accused and Patrick sold the piece of land to another person without the complainant’s consent.

“When the complainant came to the land, he saw some people working on it and when he asked, he was told that the owner asked them to work on it.

He said the offences contravened sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
