7 years marriage dissolved over constant insult

A Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, on Thursday, dissolved a seven-year-old marriage between Helen Jacob and her husband, Jacob over constant insult and beating.

The presiding judge, Mr Albert Maga, said all efforts by the court and family members to reconcile both parties had failed as she had insisted on the divorce.

“From today, you cease to be husband and wife, this court will rest further deliberations and declare free divorce to both parties,” Maga said.

Maga urged both parties to maintain peace and keep away from trouble.

The petitioner, a resident of Aso Mararaba, had on May 5, urged the court to dissolve the marriage because of her husband’s uncooperative attitude.

Helen said they married in 2010 and the union was blessed with two children.

She said that she was always scared whenever her husband was around because any misunderstanding would lead to beating.

“He insults me, beat me, inflicts injuries on me and violates my modesty in various ways that I feel ashamed of telling anyone my problem.

“He prefers going out to drink with his friends than staying at home with his family and whenever I talk about that, I will get the beating of my life.

“I beg the court to separate us, I am no longer interested in the union and the love I have for him has faded,” she pleaded with the court.

Jacob, 38, a businessman, denied the allegations, “I do beat her but not always because she always push me to the wall with her hurtful words.

“My wife is stubborn and she knows I am hot tempered but I always try to restrain myself from beating her whenever she misbehaves.

Details of the Attack The Houthis, a Shiite militant group with ties to Iran, declared that they launched missile and drone strikes targeting Israel. While the exact impact of these attacks remains unclear, reports suggest that Israel’s defense systems intercepted several threats over its airspace. This marks a significant escalation as the Houthis widen their involvement in the conflict beyond their typical operations within Yemen and neighboring Saudi Arabia. The Houthis’ Justification In their statement, the Houthis framed the attack as retaliation for Israel’s military actions in Gaza, which they characterized as indiscriminate bombings resultin...

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
