65-year old woman found dead in well in llorin

A 65-year old woman, who was in charge of ensuring proper sanitary condition of a mosque in llorin, Kwara was found dead inside a well at the mosque premises on Saturday.

The incident occurred at AnsarulDeen Mosque, Osere area, Sawmill in llorin West Local Government Area of the state.

Eye witnesses’ account revealed that the dead woman popularly known as “lya Majeobaje” fell into the well on Friday while fetching water to clean the mosque.

They said that there was nobody within the vicinity of the mosque to rescue her when she fell inside the well at about 5p.m.

None of the worshipers with the mosque took notice of any human being inside the well during the evening and early morning Saturday prayers.

Some of the residents of the area who discovered the dead woman immediately alerted the state fire service in llorin.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Mr Tiamiyu Raji, while confirming the incident said personnel from the Fire Service removed the woman from the well dead on Saturday afternoon.

He said that the corpse of the woman was taken to the B Division of Police State Command, Surulere in llorin.

Effort to speak with the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Samuel Okasanmi on the incident proved futile.

Fire: UniJos Senate convenes emergency meeting on Monday

Fire at the University of Jos Library University of Jos is to convene an emergency senate meeting on Monday to review the level of damage done to the institution by the Saturday night inferno. NDLEA arrests 252 suspects, seizes 3,073 kg Indian hemp

NDLEA operatives The NDLEA in Niger on Monday said that it had arrested 252 suspects and seized 3,073.9 kilogramme of Indian hemp(cannabis sativa) in the state. The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Joseph Iweajunwa, who disclosed this in Minna, said that the operations were carried out between January and September. “Our operations in Niger State from January to September 2016 led to the arrest of 252 suspects and seizure of 3,073.997 kilogramme of cannabis sativa,’’ he said. Iweajunwa said that within the period, the agency also seized 1, 530 litres of liquid drugs, especially cough syrup with codeine. He said the NDLEA also counselled and rehabilitated 90 drug addicts in the state within the period under review.
