A group, Aliyu Magatakarda Advocacy Group (AMAG), on Friday, urged the National Assembly to enact a legislation to sanction state governors and local government council chairmen over unpaid salaries.
Alhaji Abubakar Yabo, the Secretary of AMAG, in Sokoto said that such law would prevent governors from diverting money meant for salaries to other purposes.
He said corruption would be minimised in the country if the three tiers of government accorded priority to the payment of workers’ salaries.
Yabo noted that a well paid and motivated civil servant would expose all those behind corrupt practices in the country.
He said civil servants were critical to the repositioning of the country for optimal performance.
He also called for the provision of decent accommodation for civil servants across the country to ensure productivity.
