FGC Ijanikin introduces 2 new courses

The Federal Government College (FGC), Ijanikin, Lagos has introduced new courses in insurance and office practice to increase the employability of students graduating from the institution.

FGC Ijanikin is one of the 104 Unity Colleges in the country.

The Principal of the college, Mrs Ayibanegiesa Ibukun-Oyewole, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.

Ibukun-Oyewole argued that the challenging nature of the nation’s economy had made it imperative for students to be exposed to entrepreneurial skills.

According to the principal, the introduction of the two subjects will promote skills acquisition and sense of entrepreneurship among students.

“The two new subjects will boost our curriculum and help in positioning our students as better managers in their chosen fields of endeavour.

“The courses will also enhance and strengthen the option of career choices for students.”

She said that the college would continue to offer diversified curriculum in line with National Policy on Education.

The principal lauded the Federal Government for its support to the college and to the education sector, in spite of the lean resources of the government.

Ibukun-Oyewole, however, expressed her displeasure over what she described as the diminishing regard for values among students in schools nationwide.

“Many of us parents are permissive and live in denial of who our children are.

“This is not good because in bringing up an all-round individual, we must all play our roles as parents and teachers.

“Many of us have abdicated our duties believing that the school will take care of every aspect of our children, which should not be,” she stated.

Fall of Assad is a Blow to Russia's Prestige

The potential fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a long-standing ally of Russia, would mark a turning point in Moscow’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East. Steve Rosenberg’s analysis underscores the profound implications for Russia, which has invested heavily—both militarily and politically—in ensuring Assad’s survival over the past decade. This article delves into why Assad’s downfall would strike at the core of Russian prestige and what it could mean for the broader geopolitical landscape. Russia's Strategic Commitment to Syria Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Russia has been a staunch supporter of Assad's regime. In 2015, Moscow launched a military intervention that proved decisive in stabilizing Assad’s hold on power. This intervention solidified Russia's role as a key power broker in the Middle East and demonstrated its willingness to project military power far beyond its borders. Syria is not just an ally for Russia; it is a...
