Mikel Arteta, Arsenal captain has announced his retirement from football and in a surprise twist, he said he would be joining Pep Guardiola’s coaching team in Manchester City.
The 34 year-old Arteta had for long been linked to a coaching stint at Arsenal itself.
His retirement was announced via a lengthy statement on his Twitter page, in which he reflected on his time as a player, as well as underlining his excitement at the prospect of working alongside Guardiola, who will be formally unveiled as the new City boss on Sunday.
