Senate commiserates with Benin crown prince

The Senate on Friday ‎commiserated with crown prince and Edaiken N’Uselu, Eheneden on the demise of his father, Oba Erediauwa of Benin.

Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who represented Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, led the delegation of senators to the Palace of the Oba.

Among those in the delegation were ‎Francis Alimikhena (Edo North), Clifford Ordia (Edo Central), Matthew Urhoghide (Edo South) and Gbenga Asafa (Lagos East).

Others were Jeremiah Useni (Plateau South), Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta North), Magnus Abbe (Rivers Central) and Foster Ogala (Bayelsa West).

While presenting the heir apparent with a letter of condolence, the Senate President expressed confidence in the ability of the crown prince to build on the legacies of his father.

Saraki described the demise of Erediauwa as shocking to the people of Edo to whom he had been instrumental in facilitating socio-cultural and economic development and Nigerians in general.

“We are particularly worried that he is no more with us at this time when there are a lot of challenges affecting the nation.

“We know the role he played and we believe that if he were with us today, he would have helped to resolve the national question that is confronting us today”, he said.

Eheneden the crown prince commended the Senators for showing support to the palace.

Fire: UniJos Senate convenes emergency meeting on Monday

Fire at the University of Jos Library University of Jos is to convene an emergency senate meeting on Monday to review the level of damage done to the institution by the Saturday night inferno. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, disclosed this on Sunday after inspecting areas affected by the incident. NDLEA arrests 252 suspects, seizes 3,073 kg Indian hemp

NDLEA operatives The NDLEA in Niger on Monday said that it had arrested 252 suspects and seized 3,073.9 kilogramme of Indian hemp(cannabis sativa) in the state. The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Joseph Iweajunwa, who disclosed this in Minna, said that the operations were carried out between January and September. “Our operations in Niger State from January to September 2016 led to the arrest of 252 suspects and seizure of 3,073.997 kilogramme of cannabis sativa,’’ he said. Iweajunwa said that within the period, the agency also seized 1, 530 litres of liquid drugs, especially cough syrup with codeine. He said the NDLEA also counselled and rehabilitated 90 drug addicts in the state within the period under review.
