Amosun lauds ACOMORAN for creating jobs for youths

Abiodun Onafuye/Abeokuta: Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun has commended the state chapter of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria, ACOMORAN, for remitting taxes of members to the government and managing the environment.

The governor gave this commendation while declaring open this year’s ACOMORAN Day in Abeokuta.

Speaking at a seminar organized by the association entitled ‘Building capacity in the transportation sector: Panacea for economic downturn. A case study of commercial motorcycling,’ Amosun described governance as a collective assignment, which requires the input of all and sundry.

Represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Surajudeen Ishola Adekunbi, the governor lauded the association for supporting government in the area of creating job opportunities for the teeming youths in the state.

”Today’s programme, being a seminar aimed at educating and re-orientating union members and at the same time changing non members’ perceptions about the activities of the union, is another uncommon effort which will go a long way in complementing the rebuilding mission of our dear governor as birds of the same good feather, will always flock together,” he said.

In his remarks at the event, the Managing Director of BAJAJ Motorcycle Ltd., Mr Monish Lakhani, expressed satisfaction with the enabling environment provided by the state government, adding that his company will soon establish a plant in Ogun State.

He said Ogun State’s present status has been an attractive incentive for every investors from his home country, India.

Lakhani also applauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic policy and expressed hope that the economy would soon pick up.

He explained that his company has the full assembly plant for the manufacturing of motorcycles in the country, adding that this success made it to establish a tricycle plant.

He assured that the company would soon embark on the manufacturing of four-wheelers in the country.

“There are two things we are planning to do. The first is to construct a school where safety standard will be taught, to sensitise the riders and give them that confidence that what they are doing is not a profession but a business.

“It is a business as they report to anybody but themselves and this will make them to work harder. We need to talk to them on safety and other preventive measures.

“The second one is the building of a hospital. We are going to bring modern equipment to the hospital. The business of motorcycling, as we all know, is a difficult business. We are not praying for accidents, but to have a place where adequate medical attention will be given, when the need arises, he stated.

In his remark, AbdulKabir Adekunle Akinlade, representing Egbado South/ Ipokia federal constituency lauded the Chairman of ACOMORAN for his leadership vision in organising the programme.

He appealed to ACOMORAN members to always pay their dues and obtain tickets as these are some of what the state government uses in providing infrastructure in the state.

The state police commissioner Abdulmajid Ali advised the commercial motorcyclists to be registered with the government, adding that riders must have tags and not operate beyond 10p.m.

Dignitaries present at the event were officials of BAJAJ company from their Isolo office in Lagos, State Commandant of NDLEA, Bala Fage, Director of DSS, TRACE Commandant, Seni Ogunyemi and others.
