Nigeria-police The police in Zone 5 comprising of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa, have arrested two suspects who alleged kidnap a couple in Effurun, near Warri, Delta, on Jan. 1. The Zone’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Emeka Iheanacho, who made this known in a statement in Benin on Tuesday, said that the suspects were arrested in their hideout. Iheanacho said that “the suspects at about 0045 hours along DSC Roundabout kidnapped their victim Blessing Dukuye and his wife Joy on their way from new year service.” He further said that the suspects were arrested in their various hide out on Alaka Area and PTI Road, respectively on Jan. 17 while acting on a tip-off. NAPTIP No fewer than 80 persons were arrested by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in the year 2016, for human trafficking. The Benin Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Ebenezer Odita, who disclosed this Monday to journalists in Benin, said 194 victims were also rescued. He explained that the suspects were arrested at different locations in Edo and Delta States. The Edo NAPTIP boss further disclosed that the agency secured the conviction of three of the human traffickers, with jail sentences ranging from two to 14 years, while 31 suspects had been charged to court. According to him, “Some were arrested within Benin as a result of petitions from parents of the victims.
